Artist R. Powell

Robert Powell was born with a passion for art and a wandering spirit. These two qualities have contributed greatly to the development of Powell's talent and style.

Robert got his first professional job in the art field while serving in the United States Air Force. In the late 1980's, the Air Force began a new program to revive the lost art of airplane nose painting. This type of art was very popular in World War II days and was used to increase morale. While with the Air Force, Robert had the opportunity to paint many planes, including "High Roller", "Hoosier Hot Shot", "City of Blytheville" and many more. During this time, the movie, "Memphis Belle", was about to be released and the Air Force decided to commission a plane for the event. Painting the "Memphis Belle III" was one of Robert's most prestigious opportunities with the Air Force. The real Memphis Belle christened the plane herself and a ceremony was held in which Powell was recognized for his work. In addition, he was asked to assist in the restoration project of the original Memphis Belle. This plane is now on display in Memphis, Tennessee.

After leaving the Air Force, Robert returned to Arkansas and this time he opened several retail stores but the call of the ocean caused his wandering spirit to question what he might be missing. He then moved to Panama City Beach, Florida to paint full-time. While in Florida, Robert completed his road to expertise and was qualified as a serious craftsman.

While in Arkansas Powell has been featured in the art arena at galleries such as Tara's Art Gallery and Statements design. He also created a portrait of President Bill Clinton, which won acclaim in state competition. President Clinton commended Robert on his work. The painting was later presented to the former president.

In Villa Rica, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Robert focused on custom cars in addition to his other services. Robert was commissioned to do custom paintwork for Custom Performance Autos. It was during this time that the "Spawn" car came into being. Robert still owns the car today as well as a BMW affectionately known as "The KISS Car".

Robert has created paintings for John DeLancie and Denise Crosby, both of Star Trek: The Next Generation, along with many others. His work has been featured in numerous newspaper articles and television features. Robert's work has been the focus of AirBrush Magazine, Auto Graphics, and Airbrush Action. His work "The KISS Car" won first place in the 14th Annual Airbrush Excellence Competition. Several of his custom works, such as "Price of Freedom" has been the recipient of local awards such as Best of Show and People's Choice. Robert has been chosen as the Featured Artist for Airbrush.com. Some of his past clients include Budweiser, Miller Distributing, Baldwin Piano, Gibson Musical Instruments, Slingerland, and many other companies seeking murals, banners, and photo realistic displays. Most recently his work has been featured in The Ride magazine and Corbin's Ride On Featured on the Speedvision channel. His clientele is both local and national as he has collected many customers from his various travels.

Robert has an incredible sense of color and well-known objects change shape before your very eyes, often in three dimensions. His work is unique, elegant, fiery and full of passion.

Robert currently resides in the Central Arkansas area. He and his wife own and operate Powell Airbrush Desings, LLC dbaAirbrushGuy.com from Benton, Arkansas. He is available for commissioned artwork of all types.
